Vietnamese delegation took part in the Southeast Asian Mathematical Olympiad SEAMO on Gold Coast, Australia from January 17 to January 20, 2020 with 22 contestants, 6 teachers and parents. The whole team achieved 1 Gold Medals, 2 Silver Medals, 3 Bronze Medals and 16 Honor Prizes.
Among them, Le Xuan Hoang, 10th-grade Maths specialized student in Vinh University High School for Gifted Students successfully won the Gold Medal. Nguyen Minh Anh, grade 2, Alaska Primary School and Pham Gia Bach, grade 6, Newton Grammar School got Silver Medals. Vu Gia Khanh - grade 6, Vinschool Secondary School, Nguyen Lai Gia Bach – grade 7, Cau Giay Secondary School, Nguyen Pham Anh Minh – grade 8, Hanoi – Amsterdam High School for the Gifted won the Bronze Medals.

Southeast Asia Mathematics Olympiad (SEAMO) is a prestigious test of global English Math competency for students from Primary to High School run by SEAMO International Organizing Committee. The exam is held annually with the participation of more than 50,000 candidates from many countries around the world such as the United States, Australia, Hong Kong, India, Italy, Norway, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, ... This year's SEAMO X international round is held in Australia.
The objective of the test is to assess students’ English Maths competency at different levels, enhance their ability to study Maths in brain stimulating activities, and enhance students' logical thinking and strategies for problem solving. Students have opportunity to get to know, practice and gain experience to take the International Exams.
SEAMO is based on the 21st century plan of the Ministry of Education of Singapore. Candidates with the highest prizes have a high chance to study at top Asian schools (for example: Raffles Institute, Hwa Chong Institute, Sydney Grammar School, Meriden School, Indian Institute of Technology, National University of Singapore). The SEAMO Academic Council is chaired by Mr. Terry Chew, author of the popular bestselling series, 'Unleash the Maths Olympian in You!’.
The questions in the competition are given in two types: multiple-choice and short answers. Contestants compete to win the Gold - Silver - Bronze Medals with a ratio of 2-3-5. Candidates who pass the first round with the highest results will have the opportunity to to attend the second round of SEAMO X held in Australia.
In September 2019, the first round was organized by the Research Institute for Creative Science (RICE) in localities across the country. 22 excellent candidates are chosen among more than 3,000 candidates to attend round 2 in Gold Coast, Australia in January 2020.
SEAMO X Math Olympiad, the final round held in Australia from January 17 to January 20, 2020, has the best contestants competing from 18 countries and territories. The SEAMO International Mathematical Olympiad is built on the 21st century plan of the Ministry of Education of Singapore, focuses on creative thinking, mathematical skills. Students taking the exam are trained to reason and think to improve their overall math skills.

Taking the exam also helps to discover and encourage young talents to develop, thereby contributing to the education of each country in particular and the world in general.
